Bioplastics for sustainable single-use

Our disposable cups biodegrade in 1-3 years in any landfill, becoming soil sooner

ABOUT US

Soon Soil is a startup comprised of recent college graduates who are trying to solve the problem that is single use plastic waste.

What problem?

Single use plastic cups (think Solo Cups) take 500-1000 years to biodegrade in a landfill. In that time, they break down into toxic microplastics which get eaten by smaller animals, unintentionally ending up in our ecosystems and digestive systems.

How is SoonSoil solving this?

We manufacture bioplastic products that anaerobically (without exposure to oxygen) biodegrade in 1-3 years in a landfill.

What allows your cups to do this?

We use a material called PolyEarthylene, derived from corn and starch, which we manufacture into cups. The material is organic, bio based, and most importantly landfill biodegradable.

Why do I want cups that are landfill biodegradable?

The vast majority of waste in the US ends up in the landfill. If you bag your garbage and leave it outside for the trash collector, it's going to the landfill. When your trash goes to the landfill, we want it to disappear as soon as possible. Soon Soil reduces that time for your plastic cups from up to 1000 years to just 1-3 years. Impactful.

Recycling can't save us.

Buying biodegradable can.

What if the current cups I use are recyclable?

Recycling Is a fallacy meant to push blame from the producers on to the consumers. 1% of all plastic cups ever produced have been recycled. Less than 10% of plastic ever produced has been recycled. Plastic cups are notoriously hard to recycle.

Well, what if I recycle my cups?

You probably won't. Or if you do, you won't do it right. Any item you want to recycle that isn't clean (washed and dried) is not recyclable and will get sent to a landfill. Even if you do wash and dry every plastic cup you use, if your recycling is polluted with just one piece of trash it can ruin the whole bag and get sent to a landfill.

So when your cups end up in the landfill, do you want to leave them there for up to 1000 years or 3?

"Recyclable" excuses the creation of long-lasting waste in a toxic cycle.

Biodegradable breaks that cycle.
